Rarotonga International Airport is the gateway to the Cook Islands. Opened in January 1974 the 2300m long runway is used on a regular basis by 5 airlines – one local Air Rarotonga and four international airlines; Air New Zealand, Air Tahiti, Jetstar and Virgin Australia.
Air Rarotonga are the local air operator flying to the outer islands with up to 5 flights daily to Aitutaki.
Apart from Air Tahiti only Air New Zealand offer direct flights from place other than New Zealand. They fly weekly to/from Sydney in Australia and Los Angeles in the USA.
